This is one of those areas that we had always just stopped at for a coffee on our way somewhere else. I wasn't really expecting too much from our stay in the area but it turned out to be a beautiful location full of interesting particular one old farmer who swore more than most comedians as he regaled me with stories of the local area.

I was very happy to wake up early one morning and decide to nip out to take pictures of the night sky. Luck was definitely on my side as the most amazing aurora display I've seen in NZ happened that night so I spent a very happy 5 hours enjoying it.

We did plenty of walking in the area to, including an epic 5 hour tramp through the muddiest conditions I've ever encountered around Peel Forest.
